Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu announced in Beijing Tuesday the opening of the Third China Agricultural Trade Fair (CATF).

Due to be held from Monday to Friday, the third CATF focuses on the "demonstrating new agriculture and depicting new rural areas".

The fifth plenum of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which ended last Tuesday, proposed the goal of building a socialist new rural area,giving special significance to the trade fair.

Compared with the previous trade fairs, the third CATF boasts the largest scale and range and has some new hallmarks. It newly establishes a comprehensive area demonstrating special, new and superb Chinese products, and an area of high and new technological agricultural products and plantation area.

The fair saw 46 agricultural enterprises, over 20 tropical fruits, and more than 200 varieties of farm produce and processed products from Taiwan exhibited.

The CATF has become an important occasion boosting market processes in China's villages, improving China's farm produce market system, promoting international exchange and cooperation and expanding China's farm produce trade.

Hui Liangyu and Chinese State Councilor Zhou Yongkang visited the trade fair Monday evening.
