SPECIALIZED AGRICULTURE IS FLOURISHING IN SHEN
COUNTY
Shen County is located at the west of Shandong province. To the south is the
Yellow River. It covers an area of 1,388 square kilometres in total, and has 1.3
million Chinese mu of arable land and a population of 940,000.
Shen
County has a profound agricultural foundation. It has been named China Muskmelon
Base and China Twin-spore Mushroom Base. Its agriculture and side-line Products
mainly are melon, vegetable, fruit, mushroom and breeding, and had formed five
dominant estates in the county. Today, the county has cultivated non-pollution
vegetable 400,000 Chinese mu, of which 150,000 are winter vegetable greenhouses,
150,000 bow-shaped shed. Its annual vegetable yielding capacity is 900,000 tons.
Its products are cucumber, pumpkin, kidney bean, onion, garlic, Chinese chive,
etc. and a wide varieties in this field. Every year, the county always kept
above these figures: muskmelon 35,000 Chinese mu with a yielding capacity of
100,000 tons; watermelon 45,000 Chinese mu with a yielding capacity of 130,000
tons; twin-sport mushroom 1,180,000 square kilomtres with a yielding capacity of
88,000 tons; musk-pattern mushroom 2,300,000 bags with a yielding capacity of
400 tons; asparagus 26,000 Chinese mu with a yielding capacity of 28,000 tons.
Others such as high-quality fruit of apple, pear, peach, ginseng-fruit, etc.
hold a annual yielding capacity of 25,000 tons. In addition, fast-freeze
vegetable, dried vegetable, caned mushroom, and caned asparagus all are sold
well and enjoy a famous reputation in the country and the
world.
