Jilin Aodong Deer Industry Co., Ltd. previously known as the Yanbian Dunhua State Deer Farm was restructured into Jilin Aodong Pharmaceuticals Group Co. Ltd in 1993.
Jilin Aodong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., together with Jilin Aodong Yanbian Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd jointly established Jilin Aodong Deer Industry Co. Ltd in 2003. It is now the State Industrialized Agricultural Leading Enterprise (Dragon Head Enterprise) designated by state Ministry of Agriculture and other 9 ministries and commissions and Northeast Deer Farming Demonstration Production Base designated by the state Ministry of Science and Technology. It was also approved by the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) as GAP qualified.
As it increased input into R & D and technical renovation, the company, with technical support from Jilin Agriculture University, Changchun Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Folk Products Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, successfully established the Standards for testing quality of deer tube antlers and finished the research on technology of collecting blood from live deer. The company also successfully completed spotted deer breeding and selection. It was awarded with State Science and Technology Progress Award on development of new technologies for effectively raising spotted deer and red deer, Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and some other awards and prizes for development of new breeds of domestic animals and fow. The company did a lot of technical extension such as technology of micro wave and far infrared processing of tube antlers, utilization of superior performance of crossbred antlers deer, protection of Chinese traditional medicine.
The company has total assets of RMB 28.3 million, of which 21 million is fixed assets. It has 6,000 acres arable land, 22,500 acres of forest land and accommodates over 249 employees.
Beginning from 2002, the company has invested RMB 5 million into renovation and reconstruction of antlers processing workshop, feed processing and storage facilities, anatomical rooms, laboratories, deer shelters. We have established standardized management and control computerized software system. Now, there are altogether 3 spotted deer farms with total 5218 heads deer herd of which nucleus herd 1536 heads (1358 doe and 151 male deer ).

The deer antlers, commonly used Chinese traditional medicine, is non keratode horns of spotted male deer. It is the second sexuality, commonly called antlers of spotted deer. It is with nature of mild, taste of sweet and salty, has the efficacy of produce saliva, supplementing marrow, benefiting kidney, strengthening muscles and bones.
The outer part of antlers is hairy skin tissue with downy velvet; the inner part is connective tissue and cartilage with blood vessel through which blood carries rich nutrition so the antlers grow fast.
The antlers are in the shape of pole with branches. The pole with only one branch is called “er gang” (two branches), its main pole is called “da ting”. The branch grows at 1 cm apart from the sawed scar, which is called “zhuang men”. The outer skin of main pole shows red brown or brown color, with red yellow or brown yellow downy velvet on the surface, dense at upper part and sparse at lower. There is one grey black strip between branches. Skin and down velvet are closely connected. The saw scar turns yellow white, without external osteoporosis, but with apertures in the central. The antlers is light, with fishy and light salty smell. The antlers with two branches are locally called “san cha” (three branches). The main pole is about 23-30 cm long, thinner than “er gang” in diameter, in the shape of bow£¬a bit sharp at the end of pole. It has longitudinal arris and protuberance at lower part of pole, with red yellow skin and sparse down on the surface.
Antlers contain 25 kinds of amino acids, multi vitamins and trace elements according to modern scientific analysis. Clinical test has showed that antlers can enhance human immunity, promote hematopoietic function, promote wound healing, improve the cardiovascular system, enhance health, vitalize reproductive capacity.
